Instant Pot has vastly improved school lunches in our family! My daughter hates taking sandwiches for her lunch at school.  They always get soggy and yucky.  Plus, we just don’t eat a lot of bread.

She also hates buying the school lunch.

So I usually make a main course Sunday to divvy up for her lunches that week.  Perhaps a casserole, soup or chili.

The Instant Pot has made that so much easier!

What’s an Instant Pot?

Instant Pot is a brand of pressure cooker.  It’s not the big, clunky, scary pressure cooker your grandma had, though.

My grandma would always order the kids out of the kitchen when she was using the pressure cooker.  “If you mess with it, you’ll blow us all up!” she’d declare.

Is it any wonder I was afraid to give pressure cooking a go as an adult?!

Instant Pot allows you to cook delicious food fast and without fuss.

How to use a pressure cooker for school lunches

This is easy peasy.

  1. Make a meal Sunday evening.
  2. Divide it up into five reusable lunch containers.
  3. Put containers in the fridge.
  4. Lunch is ready for the week.
  5. Send a container with your child to school each day.
  6. (Optional:  Heat up the food in the microwave before school and pack in an insulated bag.  My daughter has access to a microwave at school, so this isn’t needed.  Plus, she actually usually prefers to eat it cold.)

School lunches to make in the Instant Pot:

Here are a few ideas of kid-friendly meals to whip up in the pressure cooker and then then pack in your child’s school lunch:

  • Spaghetti and meatballs
  • Chicken and rice
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Chili
  • Beef and broccoli
  • Pot roast
  • Black bean soup
  • Barbecue pulled pork
  • Teriyaki chicken legs
  • Beef stew
  • Chicken tacos
  • And so much more!

Here’s my best tip for using the Instant Pot.

My daughter’s current favorite lunch is a thermos of veggie soup with a container of homemade yogurt with berries.  Both the soup and yogurt are a breeze in the Instant Pot .

You are so right! The Instant Pot is a life changer. I’m 66 and have eaten pressure cooked food literally my entire life. The Instant Pot is a step above the stovetop P.C. and makes life so uch easier. Just push a few buttons to set it and walk away!

I would not want to eat something that was a 6-day (Sun.-Fri.) leftover.
