I’m a pizza junkie. It’s my “if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life” pick every single time. So when I heard Urban Bricks opened up in my town, Vero Beach, Florida, I had to try it right away.
What is Urban Bricks
I took my daughter (who is now away at college) the week they opened. Urban Bricks is a franchise pizza place with an ordering process similar to Subway or Chipotle. You go up to the counter, tell them exactly what you want on your pizza, sandwich, salad or pasta bowl, then pay. The pizza oven is super hot and cooks your pie in minutes. They have over 30 toppings and it’s the same price for just plain cheese or a 10 topping masterpiece.
My daughter got fresh mozzarella, pineapple, black olive and pepperoni. I loaded mine up with shredded mozzarella AND fresh mozzarella, Greek olives, pepperoni, mushroom, onion and banana pepper. We both went with traditional red pizza sauce, but they have pesto and white sauce available. We both thought they were very good! My pizza was a little soggy from all the toppings. I’ll try asking them to cook it a little extra next time.
We both got whole pizzas, but you can also get half a pie. I went back with a friend the next week. She swore she’d never be able to eat the whole pizza herself, but she totally did. The dough is thin, not heavy. And the pizzas are tasty, even if not the same as you’d get from a local independently owned pizza joint.
My perfect pizza
My absolute favorite type of pizza is just cheese, but that’s also the toughest variation to get just right. A perfect slice of cheese pizza is art. I don’t like my pizza to be greasy. I’m a blogger. I’ll use napkins to get off the excess grease. I don’t like sausage. I do like pineapple. Yup, I’m one of those people who blogs their pizza and puts pineapple on it. So if it’s not a cheese pizza masterpiece, I have several go to combinations:
- Pepperoni and pineapple.
- Veggie. All the veggies.
- Fresh mushroom, onion and olive.
But really, I’m not picky. I’ll gladly pick off any toppings I don’t like.
Pineapple pizza: Yum or Yuck?
Both of my daughters and I are all on team YUM for pineapple on pizza. How do you feel about it? One of the girls and I went to New York style pizzeria in our town and my daughter was horrified to learn they didn’t offer pineapple as a topping option at all. And the Italian owner was horrified she wanted it.
There’s no judgement at Urban Bricks. And plenty of pineapple.
