5 Ways to Stay Healthy While Traveling & Still Indulge In Cheesecake!

I just returned from a six night stay in New York City where I attended two blogging conferences (Blogger Bash and BlogHer).  I ate a whole lot of conference, hotel and restaurant food – yet I learned some tricks for eating healthier without giving up indulgences like cheesecake.

Here are five tricks to stay healthy while traveling:

Pick up a box of Fiber One cheesecake bars.  These are new and they are yummy.  I scored them at Publix with a coupon.  And – total bonus – they are buy one get one free at Publix this week!  They come in two varieties – strawberry and salted caramel.  Each cheesecake bar is only 150 calories and contains five grams of fiber to help keep you satisfied while you feel like you’re eating a yummy dessert.   Yup, this low calorie cheesecake actually tastes great!  Pop a few in your purse to enjoy with a cup of coffee or hot tea during meetings, on the plane or while relaxing in your hotel room.

Bring your own refillable water bottle.  Staying hydrated is important when traveling and it’s easy to go all day and then realize you’ve barely taken in any fluid.  Start off your day with a full bottle and make a point to refill it a few times during the day.  Most conferences have easily accessible water coolers for just this purpose.

Don’t forget the produce!  Conference and restaurant meals are often heavy on carbs – especially if you are grabbing something on the run.  Make a conscious effort to get in a serving each of fruit and vegetable with every meal.  It’s simple – order sliced tomatoes and a fruit cup with your eggs instead of toast and hash browns.  Have a salad at lunch and side of broccoli with dinner.  Pick up easily portable fruit like apples, oranges and bananas.

Take a stroll.   Traveling often means lots of sitting.  Sitting in a plane, train, car or terminal.  Sitting in conference sessions.  Move whenever you can.  Walk around the terminal while waiting to board.  Walk to dinner instead of hailing a taxi.  Invite friends, family or colleges to take a stroll with you instead of sitting down for coffee.

Get plenty of sleep.  It’s easy to stay up way too late when you’re traveling.  Make sure to get back to your hotel with plenty of time to unwind a bit with a hot bath or a bit of reading.  Then shut off the light and get a good night of sleep.

They are simple tricks, but they will make a big difference if you want to stay healthy while traveling.  I have a major sweet tooth, so the Fiber One low calorie cheesecake bars are a big help for me.  I love to have one with a mug of hot decaf tea in my hotel room to help me relax after a long day.  It’s a great healthy dessert option.

And I have a Fiber One coupon so you can try them, too!

But wait!  There’s more!

I’m also giving away $15 in PayPal cash!  To enter, just visit Fiber One and then come back here to tell me that products and recipes you’d like to try.  How would you fulfill your #CheesecakeInstinct?
